OREM, Utah – Peak Capital Partners founder and managing partner Jeff Burningham has been named as a Utah regional finalist of the 2013 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year awards. The awards program recognizes high-growth entrepreneurs who demonstrate excellence and extraordinary success in such areas as innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities. The finalists were selected from 52 nominations by a panel of independent judges. Award winners will be announced at a special gala event on June 20 at The Grand America Hotel.

Co-founded in 2007 by Jeff Burningham, Jeff Danley, and Jamie Dunn, Peak Capital Partners owns and manages conventional, student, and affordable apartment properties in growth markets across the United States. At present, the firm owns 30 apartment communities in seven states housing nearly 6,000 families. In 2012, Peak Capital Partners acquired apartment communities worth more than $150 million. Today, the company has a total asset portfolio of more than $350 million.

Recently, Peak Capital Partners celebrated the opening of its newest acquisition, The Village at South Campus, one of the largest apartment communities in the state of Utah, housing nearly 1,000 students. In addition, 40 other assets across the country are currently under contract representing more than 4,000 new doors and $200 million in asset value.

Burningham has been an active real estate investor since 2003. He began his career while in college, where he founded Mindwire, a technology company which he later sold to a NASDAQ-listed company, and where he served as an executive vice president for several years. During this time, he was selected as the Young Entrepreneur of the Year in the state of Utah. He later founded and sold two other successful companies before focusing his attention on real estate opportunities.

While Peak’s core business is real estate driven, Burningham’s passion for technology and his drive as a serial entrepreneur endures through Peak Ventures, a seed fund started by Burningham, Danley, and Dunn. Peak Ventures invests in promising seed-stage tech startups, entrepreneurs, and operating businesses. To date, Peak Ventures has invested in nine businesses to serve its growing real estate portfolio. Burningham has facilitated and managed three successful exits in the portfolio. He also has taken an active role in the companies he has invested in by serving as a director on several boards. He gives of his time mentoring new CEOs by offering strategy support and expertise.

Burningham has a commitment for helping others and freely gives his time and money to several philanthropic causes. He currently serves on six boards of directors, three of which are non-profit organizations. He graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Science degree from Brigham Young University.
